Brooklyn Memoir @

@Brooklyn Memoir (45)@
Vacation in Maui (2)

It took almost whole day to reach the island of Maui from JFK airport. Five hours to cross the coasts, 3-hour transit at LA airport, 8 -hour flight to Honolulu, 2-hour transit at Honolulu airport and finally 2-hour flight to Maui. However, I was with full of energy when I arrived at Maui airport. A lack of sleep in the last 20 hours was nothing to me, considering the ordeal during my residency, and besides I planned to spend a week doing nothing but relaxing in Maui.

I took a taxi at the airport and went to Sheraton Maui in Kaanapali.
The taxi driver was a middle aged talkative white woman. I told her that I completed the residency training in Brooklyn NY and took one-week vacation here before returning to Osaka, Japan. She asked me about my family. I answered that I was a son of practicing physician and was to succeed his practice in the future. She said g You are born with a silver spoon. A lucky son of bitch!h I realized such expression as SOB was used in this situation by an ordinary white woman.

My daily schedule from the next morning was like this. I woke up around 8 am and had a breakfast at the garden restaurant. I read 2 newspapers, local and main land during the breakfast. After the breakfast I went to the beach and was reading a paperback under the palm tree. I sometimes sipped pina colada bought at the beachside bar. When I felt hot, I bathed in the sea. In the late afternoon there was a rain shower in this season. After the rain shower there appeared a beautiful rainbow. After having appreciated the rainbow I went back to the hotel and was chatting with a concierge of the hotel. She advised me to rent a Jeep and make a roud trip of the island. I followed her advice and made a round trip next day.
There was a huge cane field and jungle -ike forest on the way. I enjoyed the trip.
