140) Intel Inside
In March 2023, Intel founder Moore passed away at the age of 94. Moore founded Intel in 1968 and contributed to the manufacture and improvement of semiconductors. In the process, he predicted Moore's Law, which states that “the density of semiconductors doubles every two years,” and his prediction came true. From the 1990s onwards, Intel's CPUs (central processing units) dominated the personal computer market. In 1997, he retired as Intel's honorary chairman and established the Gordon & Betty Moore Foundation, dedicating his vast fortune to social contributions alongside figures like Bill Gates.?

In summary, his life can be outlined as above. While it was undoubtedly an extraordinary life, what stands out most to me, the author of this blog, as the epitome of Intel, is its catchphrase. In English, it's “Intel Inside.” The “In” rhymes (I noticed this while writing, but “In,イン in Japanese, meaning rymes ” also rhymes here), making it a clever slogan. However, Intel Japan's Japanese translation, “Intel haitteru, ハイッテル” is an even more brilliant work, as “テル” (teru) rhymes with “Intel.” Interestingly, about ten years ago, I was asked to write a book review for a medical textbook with the slightly playful (or perhaps a bit silly?) title “Doctor's Head、医師頭, same pronunciation as Sone head” I decided to use the Intel story, but this time as a “pillow, beginning joke in Rakugo” rather than a “head.” Unfortunately, it didn't go over well. It seems that jokes lose their charm when explained.
